Would You Rather Take Drugs or Just Eat Right?

Ever notice how much TV advertising time is allocated to commercials for pharmaceuticals? You’ve seen them during your favorite shows:

  • “Do you have rheumatoid arthritis? Here’s a pill for you…”

  • “Do you have Type II diabetes? Here’s a drug you can take…”

  • “Do you have high cholesterol? Don’t worry about it - pop this…”

  • “Do you have fibromyalgia? No problem! Here’s yet another addition to your daily pill regimen…”

Suffice it to say that if you have any sort of symptom, or even if you just think you have a symptom, rest assured - Big Pharma has a quick-and-easy solution just waiting for you to “ask your doctor about!”

Forget what this says about today’s modern health care system - we’ve ranted about that enough in our blogs and webinars. And we’re absolutely NOT saying that pharmaceutical drugs don’t have a place in the modern medical arena - they certainly do. What we ARE saying is that drugs should NOT be the main focus of doctors looking to provide a solid foundation of health to the community. Why, you ask? Well, please allow me to concentrate on the TV commercials a little bit more…

I reviewed four commercials currently airing on major networks these days simply to see how much time they allotted to precautions and side effects. I did this because we all know that TV commercials are not cheap. Big companies pay big bucks to advertise their products on certain shows at certain times when their target audience should (statistically) be watching. So, the commercial costs money, and I wanted to see what percentage of time (a.k.a. money) was spent rattling off the precautions and side effects.

The commercials that I reviewed were for Enbrel, Victoza, Crestor, and Lyrica, and here’s what I found:

  • Enbrel (prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis) has a 60-second commercial, half of which was spent detailing precautions and side effects.

  • Victoza (for diabetes) has a 2-minute commercial, and 70 seconds was spent explaining precautions and side effects.

  • Crestor (for cholesterol) has a 30-second commercial, 16 seconds of which was spent on precautions and side effects.

  • Lyrica (pain, fibromyalgia) has a 1-minute commercial with 28 seconds allocated to precautions and side effects.

So, as you can see, roughly half of Big Pharma’s TV advertising budget (which would not be insignificant) is spent trying to prevent lawsuits arising from potentially serious health issues that have apparently been associated with their products. In other words, they spend millions of dollars to tell us that their products may cause serious health problems. Think about that for a minute: The very FOUNDATION of our existing health care model CAUSES SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS - both physical and mental, mind you! And how’s that working for the general population? Hmm… record high rates of obesity, cancer, diabetes and other autoimmune diseases… Do you think there is a mindset problem here?

Let me leave you with this: At the end of virtually every single pharmaceutical TV commercial that I see, I find myself uttering these words: “Or you could just eat right…”

Here’s the bottom line: YOU CAN. Combined with eating right and living a healthy, natural life, it’s entirely possible for you to limit or even eliminate the symptoms you’re suffering from, rather than take the risk of experiencing some of the nasty side effects that those TV commercials spend so much time and money to rattle off.
