Are you one of many suffering from a seasonal upper respiratory infection? If so, you may be struggling with chest or nasal congestion. Did you know you can use herbs to naturally treat your congestion? If that interests you, this article reveals how to relieve lung congestion with herbs.
What Is Congestion?

Congestion, a mucus build-up in your system, typically is a good thing. In balanced amounts, it helps protect your lung’s lining. Like a superheroes protective shield, it also protects nasal passages, mouth, reproductive and digestive organs from being attacked or threatened by dust, unfriendly environmental particles, bacteria, viruses and other unhealthy microorganisms.
Your Body’s Natural Irritation Eliminating Weapon
When you develop congestion, understand it to be your body’s natural way to get rid of irritating particles or microorganisms. Your body uses the mucus to help flush out the irritants.
But with the congesting mucus build up you can feel irritated and eventually exhausted trying to cough out, sneeze out or blow out the irritants. When the congestion levels begin to interrupt your ability to breath easily, that is the time to consider taking herbal remedies. The remedies that help you eliminate the congestion can help you also get back to feeling your usual happy self because it will help you rest and sleep naturally again, too.
Get Your Doctor’s Advice Before Taking Any Herbal Remedies
It’s always a good idea to contact your doctor before taking any herbal remedies. Especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a pre-existing medical condition, are taking nutritional supplements or prescription medications, you’ll want to include your doctor’s expertise in on your choices to take herbs to treat your congestions. Another good reason to ask a doctor before taking herbs to treat an ailment is if you are giving them to a child. Often, giving a child an adult amount of an herbal remedy could hurt your child.
